Reports of the substantial decline in insect populations within a few decades have shown how alarming the consequences of human interference with nature are. Butterflies make up only a part of the insects, but fascinate us especially with their colors, shapes and patterns.
During my trips to the countryside, I noticed that you can use the camera of a smartphone not only to scan QR codes, but with some patience also for close-ups of butterflies: It's possible due to the pretty short escape distance of the animals, in comparison with their size. Here is a list of species that I have photographed in this way during the last years in the South Baden region of Germany (all photos are licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0). The pictures can also be viewed as a (quiz-like) slide show.
